Every Sun Stream infrared sauna is fitted with premium nano-carbon heating panels engineered to deliver exceptionally low EMF and near-zero ELF emissions without compromising performance. Measured at less than 1 mG from just 1 inch (25 mm) from the heater surface, our technology is among the, if not the lowest available in the infrared sauna industry.
Sun Stream pioneered EMF-cancelling nano-carbon heater technology in 2010. Since then, we’ve remained committed to refining our heating systems to achieve some of the industry’s lowest EMF and ELF readings while maintaining exceptional infrared performance.
Many infrared sauna manufacturers promote “low EMF”, but without publishing clear test results, it’s difficult for consumers to know what “low” actually means.
At Sun Stream, we believe transparency is more important than marketing claims. That’s why we publish live EMF meter demonstrations on video, allowing you to see our measurements for yourself rather than simply taking our word for it. We stand behind our published readings and encourage customers to compare them with any other sauna on the market.
In this short video, we explain how our EHS Nano-Carbon heater technology achieves ultra-low EMF and near-zero ELF readings, and demonstrate the measurements live using professional EMF meters.
In 2018, Sun Stream introduced our EHS (Electric Field Shielded) heater technology across the entire sauna range. Designed from the ground up, the system dramatically reduces electric fields at their source, achieving near-zero ELF readings without relying on additional shielding materials.
The internal design of our EHS heaters eliminates the EF/ELF electric fields at the source of the heater. Many sauna manufacturers reduce electric fields by adding shielding materials such as conductive fabrics, meshes or metal grilles. Sun Stream takes a different approach by eliminating electric fields at the source through the design of our EHS heating system.
Our EHS heaters represent a significant technological development and do not rely on any additional blocking materials to mitigate the electric fields.
Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are produced by electrical devices whenever electricity flows. Magnetic fields are commonly measured in milliGauss (mG), while electric fields are measured separately using different units.
Because infrared saunas place heating elements close to the body, many customers choose to compare EMF and ELF levels when selecting a sauna. This is why Sun Stream has invested heavily in developing some of the industry’s lowest measurable EMF and ELF heater technology.
For safety, The EPA (Environmental Protection Authority) recommends you limit your magnetic field exposure to less than 2.5mG.
Every Sun Stream sauna is equipped with our advanced EHS Ultra-Low EMF & Near-Zero ELF Nano-Carbon heating panels. While many infrared saunas use carbon heaters, the materials, manufacturing process and engineering behind those heaters can vary significantly.
Our nano-carbon heating panels are manufactured using microscopic carbon particles that heat rapidly and efficiently when electricity passes through them. This enables excellent far infrared performance while maintaining exceptional energy efficiency and consistent heat output.
Not all carbon heating panels are created equal. Different grades of carbon materials and manufacturing techniques can have a significant impact on performance, durability and efficiency.
The specialised nano-carbon materials used in Sun Stream heaters originate in Japan and are processed using advanced manufacturing techniques to produce high-performance, high-density heating panels designed for exceptional reliability and infrared output.
Our Ultra Low EMF & ELF Nano-Carbon heaters emit Far Infrared (FIR) with approximately 70% of the heater’s output lying between 5–15 microns (5000–15000 nm) and approximately 90% between 1–20 microns (1000–20,000 nm). This means our heaters deliver the broad far infrared spectrum required for an effective and comfortable sauna experience while also encompassing the mid infrared range of 1.4–3.0 microns.
Many infrared sauna manufacturers make claims about heater performance, infrared output and heat penetration. However, objective comparisons between different heater technologies are rarely shown.
To better understand radiant heat distribution, Sun Stream developed a visual comparison test using thermochromic liquid crystal technology. This allows the intensity and spread of infrared heat to be observed under consistent testing conditions.
The liquid crystal test screen changes colour in response to radiant heat, making it possible to compare the coverage and intensity produced by different heater technologies. As the images below demonstrate, our high-density nano-carbon panels produce broader, more even heat coverage than the alternative heater designs tested.

Broader and more even infrared heat coverage means more of your body is surrounded by radiant heat, delivering a more consistent and immersive sauna experience.
To verify the safety of our nano-carbon heating panels, Sun Stream commissioned independent VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) testing by Pacific Environmental Consulting & Occupational Hygiene Services.
As carbon panel heaters have become the industry standard, questions have naturally arisen about the materials used in their construction and whether they release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when heated.
High-quality nano-carbon heating panels should not release harmful VOCs when manufactured correctly. However, because the materials and manufacturing processes used by different manufacturers can vary, independent testing provides valuable reassurance.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that can be released from certain manufactured materials when heated. Many customers choose low-VOC products to help maintain good indoor air quality.
To ensure the safety of our Nano-Carbon Panel heaters we submitted them to VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) for emission testing by an independent lab, Pacific Environmental Consulting
Independent Test Results: 0.0 ppm
Independent laboratory testing found VOC concentrations below the level of detection (0.0 ppm) across all Sun Stream nano-carbon heating panels tested.
