Please note, similar to appliances with motors such as washing machines, dryers and fridges, infrared saunas create ground leakage. This helps dissipate electric fields. In some homes (less than 5%) that have switchboards close to capacity with only one to two circuit breakers, introducing an infrared sauna can cause your circuit breaker to trip. In this instance, replacing the RCD with an additional circuit breaker may be required.

People use infrared saunas for many reasons, including relaxation, stress reduction, post-exercise recovery, improved circulation, a deep sweat and as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. Research into infrared sauna bathing continues to grow, with studies investigating a wide range of potential health and wellness benefits.

The true cost of an infrared sauna isn’t what you pay on the day you buy it—it’s what it costs over the next 10 or 20 years.
Inferior materials, perfromance, lower-quality components and shorter warranties may reduce the initial purchase price, but they can often lead to higher ownership costs through repairs, replacement or simply the need to buy another sauna sooner than expected.
At Sun Stream, we design our saunas to provide decades of reliable performance. That’s why every sauna is built from premium materials, engineered for longevity and backed by a lifetime residential warranty.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised how little it costs to enjoy your sauna. Even with daily use, running costs are significantly lower than most people expect.
A typical sauna session including heating time won’t exceed one hour. The following running costs are based on €0.40/kWh tariff from your electricity supplier:
| Model Name | Power Running | Cost (Per Session) |
|---|---|---|
| Evolve Mini | 1390W | €0.56 |
| Evolve 10 | 1710W | €0.70 |
| Evolve 20 | 2040W | €0.83 |
| Evolve 30 | 2255W | €0.90 |
A pre-heat time of only 15 minutes is all that is required to bring the heaters up to full temperature prior to commencing your sauna session.
Although the maximum temperature setting of our Sun Stream Saunas is 65°c, it’s important to note that the actual cabin temperature of the sauna is NOT the key factor. Unlike traditional heat & steam saunas which rely on temperature alone, a far Infrared Sauna heats the body directly, or in other words you absorb the radiant heat through the moisture in your skin which is then drawn in deeper through conduction to the muscles to induce a deep heavy sweat.
Far Infrared heat causes you to sweat and release toxins from the body even at relatively low cabin temperatures. Our saunas are designed to achieve this result faster than all other brands due the concentration of power into lower high watt density carbon heater panels, superior 360 degree radiant heat and no fabrics or materials covering the surface of the heater panels and thereby blocking the radiant heat.

Yes. Most customers assemble the Evolve 20 themselves using our detailed instructions. Installation is quick, easy and requires only a screwdriver to fix the handle to the door along with a couple of additional minor tasks. There are no special electrical requirements, all electrics are plug n play. Depending on the model purchased, installation can take anywhere from 30 – 90 minutes.
Since all of our saunas are made from untreated timber to ensure they are free of toxins, they are not suitable to be placed outside. Saunas placed outside are not covered by our Lifetime Warranty.
We chose 100% solid Canadian Hemlock because we believe it’s the best timber for a premium infrared sauna. It is durable, dimensionally stable, hypoallergenic, has virtually no natural odour, and creates a bright, modern appearance that complements any home.
Canadian Western Red Cedar is undoubtedly a beautiful timber and remains a popular choice for traditional saunas where high moisture resistant timber is essential. However, it is also recognised as a potential sensitiser for some people. According to the Wood Database, Western Red Cedar has been associated with allergic reactions in susceptible individuals, including skin, eye and respiratory irritation.
Because our focus is on health and wellness, we believe Canadian Hemlock is the better choice for the vast majority of customers.

For most people, the answer is yes. Sun Stream saunas are constructed from 100% solid Canadian Hemlock, a timber chosen for its hypoallergenic properties, minimal natural odour and suitability for health and wellness environments.
A very small percentage of people experience a condition commonly referred to as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), where they may react to very low levels of certain natural or synthetic substances. While MCS is not universally recognised as a medical diagnosis, individuals who believe they have this condition should carefully consider any new product introduced into their home.
For customers seeking the lowest possible natural odour and a hypoallergenic timber, we believe 100% solid Canadian Hemlock is an excellent choice.
The main difference is how the heat is produced and how it warms your body.
Traditional saunas use a stove to heat rocks, which then warm the surrounding air. Water can be poured over the hot rocks to create steam, producing the high temperatures and humidity associated with a traditional sauna.
Infrared saunas use advanced infrared heaters to warm your body directly rather than primarily heating the air around you. This allows you to enjoy the benefits of infrared heat at lower, more comfortable air temperatures while still achieving a deep, satisfying sweat.
Because infrared saunas don’t require a stove, hot rocks or plumbing, they are also much easier to install and can be placed in many suitable rooms throughout the home.
Most people enjoy an infrared sauna session for between 20 and 30 minutes, although the ideal duration varies depending on your experience, personal preference and overall health. If you’re new to infrared saunas, it’s often best to begin with shorter sessions and gradually increase the time as your body becomes accustomed to the heat.
As with any wellness routine, listen to your body and leave the sauna if you feel uncomfortable. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or have any health concerns, we recommend consulting your healthcare professional before using an infrared sauna.
Many people enjoy using their infrared sauna anywhere from a few times a month to several times a week—it really comes down to your lifestyle, schedule and personal preference. Some owners enjoy a relaxing sauna session every day, while others simply use it whenever they feel like unwinding after a busy day or strenuous exercise.
There is no “right” frequency. One of the greatest benefits of owning your own infrared sauna is the freedom to enjoy it whenever it suits you.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or have any concerns about sauna use, we recommend consulting your healthcare professional before using an infrared sauna.
For the most comfortable infrared sauna experience, many people choose to wear very light clothing, such as a swimsuit, while others prefer to use their sauna without clothing when privacy allows. The most important consideration is to wear as little as you feel comfortable with so your skin is exposed to the infrared heat.
Heavy clothing can reduce your comfort by trapping heat and preventing perspiration from evaporating naturally, making your sauna session feel hotter than necessary.
For hygiene and comfort, we recommend sitting on a clean towel and keeping a second towel nearby to wipe away perspiration during your session.
The Purpose of a Sauna
To safely heat your body, raise your core temperature and produce a deep, comfortable sweat.
Far infrared is exceptionally well suited to this because it is readily absorbed by the water in our skin, efficiently generating heat within the body.
What About Near Infrared?
Near Infrared is widely researched for photobiomodulation (light therapy), where LEDs or lasers emitting specific wavelengths—commonly around 660 nm and 850 nm—are positioned very close to the body.
Why Sun Stream Chose Far Infrared
Rather than attempting to combine two very different technologies into one product at great compromise to the effectiveness of both treatments, Sun Stream has chosen to optimise each therapy for its intended purpose.
What About Full Spectrum Saunas?
Current photobiomodulation research has generally used high-intensity LEDs or lasers positioned close to the treatment area. In many full spectrum sauna designs, users are much further from the far less powerful Near Infrared source, which may affect the amount of light reaching the body. For this reason, Sun Stream has chosen not to market our saunas as “full spectrum”, instead focusing on optimising Far Infrared without compromising the sweating experience, which is the entire purpose of buying an infrared sauna.
In our opinion, yes. Carbon fibre panel heaters offer significant advantages over traditional ceramic heaters in terms of comfort, durability and infrared heat distribution. That’s why every Sun Stream sauna is equipped with premium nano-carbon heating panels.
Longer Lasting Performance
Carbon fibre panels operate at lower temperatures than ceramic heaters, placing less stress on the heating elements. This contributes to exceptional long-term reliability and is one of the reasons we confidently back our saunas with a lifetime residential warranty.
Powerful, Even Infrared Heat
Large nano-carbon heating panels distribute infrared heat evenly across a much larger surface area than ceramic tube heaters. This provides exceptional body coverage and a consistently powerful sauna experience without the concentrated hot spots associated with ceramic tube heaters.
Superior 360° Body Coverage
Large nano-carbon panels surround your body with infrared heat from multiple directions, providing far more even heat distribution than narrow ceramic tubes. This allows more of your body to be exposed to infrared energy, creating a deeper, more comfortable and consistent sauna experience.
